This BMI calculator for teens and children is different from the one used for adults. While it utilizes height and weight however, it also takes into account age and gender. This is because female and male height and weight change during growth and development. For children, BMI is expressed as percentiles compared to other children of the same age gender

Path to improved health
If your BMI indicates that you're overweight or obese you can reduce it by losing some weight. This can be achieved by following the usual weight-loss guidelines, such as:
- A healthy diet. Choose lean meats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Reduce sugar, alcohol, food items that are processed, sodas and juices. Consume fewer calories.
- Engaging in regular exercise.This includes cardio and weight-bearing exercises to build muscle and shed fat. This can be effective in reducing belly fat. Belly fat increases the risk of some health issues. Consult your physician before you begin a workout routine.
- Be mindful of portion control. Do not eat too much during meals and snacks.
If your child's BMI is excessive (above the 85 th percentile) discuss with your doctor about how you can aid child lose weight.
Things to be considered
If your BMI indicates you're overweight or overweight, then you could be at risk for developing certain diseases. They include heart disease, arthritis, and certain types of cancer. BMI doesn't have the ability to diagnose disease. It is, however, an important metric that should be a reason to talk with your physician about the best way to lose weight, and reduce your BMI.
